Get ready for an epic Dirt Monster Hash! This year, we’re doing things a little differently as Swamp Bitch is retiring from race director for Dirt Monster. This hash is a special send-off!
For those who don’t know: Dirt Monster was the first trail-only race in North Park, established in 2006, and, for 19 years, it’s been held on the first Saturday in November. This was all thanks to Swamp Bitch’s dedication to the park, helping other running groups in the community, including the North Park Trail Runners, to establish their own trail races.
As she sunsets off into race director retirement, we’re sweeping in to give Swamp a proper hashy celebration to show her some love as she wraps up the race this year.
We have two options for participation:
**Option 1: Participate in the Race (Hares prefer this!)**
**Time:** 9:00 AM – 9:30 AM Race start **Location:** Grant Pavilion, North Park https://maps.app.goo.gl/8MiTqfj4VjcZJ2Xs5**Cost:** $15 with the HASH promo code. Sign Up: Please sign up directly with the race here: https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=129075**Donation:** For everyone who signs up, Steph Infection will donate $5.00 to the race. **Hoodies:** If you want a hoodie, today, October 17th, is the deadline! (Yes, I know it’s late. Sorry!) **Beer:** There will be a low-key beer stop on the trail at the “Water Stop.” Please remember this is during a race, and we want to avoid any trouble in the park. **Post-Race:** Dirt Monster provides beer and soup post-race for participants. **Important:** Please do not run the race without officially signing up. **Volunteers:** Don’t want to run but want to help at the race by volunteering? Let Swamp or your hares know!

**Option 2: Show up Post-Race and Help Swamp**
**Gather:** 12:00 pm on out around 1pm **Location:** Grant Pavilion, North Park https://maps.app.goo.gl/8MiTqfj4VjcZJ2Xs5**Cost:** $5.69, which will go directly to the Dirt Monster Charity. (If you participated in Option 1, you do not need to pay again.) **What we’re doing:** Grab a beer from the hares and head out to run/hike the best parts the race trail. You’ll be carrying your own beer if you want more than one. —————————
**Circle and Celebrations:**
Circle and celebrations will follow the Dirt Monster Race Event Wrap-Up at the Grant Pavilion, as we have an alcohol permit and the pavilion for the day. Since we’ll have two groups, the circle will take place between them, meaning Group 2 will get to start with circle and much rejoicing!
Oh, by the way, it’s also World Peace Through Beer day, and we’re participating in that as well! Get ready for some of the best international selections!

It’s time for the Shit hash, Darkside version! Abandon Shit is continuing his run (see what I did there?) of only attending Darkside trails as the hare, and this time he found another member of the Shit clan to join him. In a totally expected move, trail will take you through the lovely and definitely flat neighborhoods of Greenfield and Hazelwood.
Hash cash is $5 and includes trail and circle beer. Start bar beer is on you.
There will be some shiggy, maybe a level 3 (out of 6.9). Weather depending, there may be mud. Dress appropriately and bring a dry pair of shoes just in case.
Bug spray is encouraged, and for the love of G, please check yourself for ticks after trail.
Cranium torches are highly encouraged.
Dogs can probably do trail if they’re agile, but the start bar is not dog-friendly.
Parking is on street and quite shitty, so consider riding public transit or a bike.
On-after can be at J. Gough’s for drinks only, or the Squirrel Cage if you want food too.

Start in the parking lot of Hollywood Gardens.
Gather at 1:00, on-out at 1:30.
They will open early just for us!

They open officially at 5:00 so it’s the obvious perfect ending spot. The bar is a Must-See to be believed.
Approximate distance – 14 miles, maybe less.
Hills – Just a few gradual ones, trail is mostly flat.
Terrain – Mixed including pavement, bike trails, quiet streets, a little grass, some hard packed gravel and a very short section or 2 of some loose gravel.
Other – Two stops & circle.
Bring a bike in good working condition, maybe a light, and a lock.
